The 3rd times a charm… or so they say.

The 3rd times a charm… or so they say.

As I mentioned in this post, my family used to have “Traditions.” I’ve used the excuse of why our gatherings have changed of “We all grew up”, but that’s not the case. When I really started to think hard, age has nothing to do with why we don’t get together as we used to. There are people who refused to have it any other way, who are no longer with us, and no one picked up the job of making us all see how important that time is. Well this year, I feel like I’m that person. My blog inspired my family to try to come together at least once more. For weeks, I’ve been excited. Excited we will all pile into one house, bake cookies on Christmas Eve together, play games, and sing Christmas carols if we must, and then I learned, my sister wouldn’t be here. To be honest, I was more than disappointed, but I do understand she’s married and has another family to start making traditions with, as I once did as well.

I’ve missed Christmas with my family in the past, but some reason this year is different. Whether I missed being here because I lived in Hawaii, or the time I decided we’d pack up and go to Charleston and spend it in a hotel, I now realize how much I was missing not being home. I’ve pondered whether to leave “Home” for some time now, and I realize, no matter where I am, or where I go… home is whereever my family is… So this year, Home is here. We’re blessed enough to share my grandmother’s 80th birthday with her on December 29th, and to have my family here, truly brings a smile to my face, if for no other reason.

So here’s the deal…

Two times and no success. Two houses that never stood. Two years we got a good laugh… But things have changed…

This year she said, “Would be Our Year! I can feel it.” She would be my aunt Marie. For the past two years, she and the children have tried to build a gingerbread house. Notice I said tried? I’m not exactly sure why this is so hard really. It is a GINGERBREAD house KIT, how hard could it be right? Apparently, harder than it looks, although I have saw plenty others be successful. It must just be my family… We can’t be perfect at everything right? But we sure do a good job pretending…

It was late, we’d been busy all day long and the kids decided, “Let’s do it!” As I raised my brow (I really can’t but you know what I’m saying) I thought, ok you have YET to do this successfully and you want to try it at nine o’clock a night, seriously? Oh boy… To my great surprise… DRUMROLL please… She was right, this was the YEAR~! Happy Holidays!
